Rangers FC has secured a transfer agreement with Partizan Belgrade for Serbian midfielder Vanja Dragojevic, concluding weeks of negotiations. The deal marks a significant step in the club's summer overhaul, aligning with spending trends seen in European football's mid-tier leagues.
After several bids fluctuating between £3.8 million and £5.5 million, the two clubs settled on a fee that includes a sell-on clause, ensuring Partizan will receive a portion of any future transfer fee should Dragojevic move on.
The initial offer from Rangers was around £3.8 million, approximately €4.5 million. Partizan countered with a request for £4.5 million to £5.5 million along with the sell-on provision. The final agreement reflects a compromise between those figures, with the clause serving as a form of trailing commission for Partizan.
At just 20 years old, Dragojevic has already made a name for himself as the captain of Partizan. His departure was anticipated, especially since Partizan had recently signed Timothy Ouma from Slavia Prague, indicating a planned transition.
Under the guidance of manager Derek McInnes, Rangers is deep into a squad reconstruction phase, and Dragojevic is expected to play a key role rather than just serve as a backup option.
