In a significant move, Hyundai Motor America and Hyundai Motor Mexico recently conducted a pilot project utilizing Tether's USDT on the Avalanche blockchain. This trial aimed to streamline cross-border treasury operations, achieving a remarkable settlement time of just seven minutes for a $20,000 transaction.
The process involved Hyundai Motor America converting the funds into USDT and sending them to its Mexican counterpart, which then converted the USDT back into U.S. dollars. This full cycle exemplified how blockchain technology can facilitate faster financial transactions compared to traditional banking methods, which can take hours, sometimes up to four or more, to finalize.
The pilot was executed with the support of Axiym’s regulated infrastructure on the Avalanche network, which ensured both the transfer and the verification of the transaction occurred smoothly. This approach not only sped up the payment process but also demonstrated the potential for stablecoins to enhance corporate treasury management.
Through this initiative, Tether is looking to broaden the use of USDT in institutional settings. The project underscored the importance of creating a compliant and scalable payment system for corporate treasury activities. Hyundai Card played a crucial role in structuring the remittance process, handling compliance checks, regulatory reviews, and accounting requirements, which ensured that existing governance standards were maintained throughout the experiment.
The results of this pilot highlight growing interest among corporations in using stablecoins for treasury operations and cross-border payments. As large multinational entities explore blockchain solutions for their financial processes, the initiative serves as a testament to how digital dollar settlements can be integrated into existing corporate workflows without disrupting current systems.
Looking ahead, Tether plans to assess further international payment options, potentially paving the way for more widespread adoption of blockchain technology in corporate finance and treasury management.
