Shares of American Bitcoin have crashed dramatically by more than 95% from their peak, resulting in a staggering loss of over $600 million for Eric Trump, who holds approximately a 6% stake in the company. This decline raises questions about the future of the cryptocurrency mining firm, especially given its recent treasury growth.

Recent Developments in American Bitcoin's Stock

Despite acquiring more than 8,000 BTC this month, American Bitcoin’s stock has taken a significant nosedive. The company’s shares fell to a mere $6.13 as of July 10, following a reverse stock split implemented on July 2. The split, which adjusted the shares from around 1.09 billion to about 73 million, was intended to comply with Nasdaq's minimum bid-price rule. However, it did little to mitigate the ongoing selling pressure that has plagued the stock.

This reverse split raised the quoted price of the shares but did not enhance the company’s actual market value. Bloomberg's analysis indicates that the stock is now priced more than 95% lower than its peak, a situation exacerbated by investor concerns regarding earnings and future prospects rather than simply the mechanics of the reverse split.

Bitcoin Reserves and Company Strategy

In the midst of its stock struggles, American Bitcoin continues to grow its Bitcoin reserves, having added 500 BTC recently. This brings its total reserves to over 8,000 BTC, a threefold increase since the company's debut on Nasdaq. Eric Trump has previously touted the company’s operating model as “virtually unmatched,” highlighting a strategy centered on large-scale mining and direct Bitcoin purchases.

At a time when the price of Bitcoin has dropped significantly about 22% during the last quarter the company reported a $118.2 million operating loss for Q1 2026, which included a sizable non-cash charge linked to the decreased market valuation of its Bitcoin holdings. This raises concerns about the viability of their business model, particularly given the increasing costs of mining.

As the cryptocurrency landscape evolves, it remains to be seen how American Bitcoin will navigate these challenges, especially in an environment where investor sentiment can swing rapidly, impacting stock prices and valuations. The firm's ability to sustain its Bitcoin mining operations and grow its reserves will be pivotal in determining its future trajectory.
